Season 3 has really dragged on. There were so many useless episodes (when Hurley gets the van, random flashback episodes etc) that every time it got good again, I had to wait two whole episodes to get back to that good part. I really dislike shows like that and towards the middle of the season I felt like giving up and spoiling the whole show. Thankfully, I didn’t do that and stuck with it. Now I’m on episode 20 of Season 3 and it’s finally getting to the juicy part. It’s finally trying to answer the questions: where are they, who are they others, what the FUCK is the Dharma Initiative, and will they ever leave the island. All of the questions Sayid, Charlie, Kate, Sun, and Sawyer have for Juliet, we the audience have too. So it only makes us hate Juliet more, which I’m fine with since I never liked her in the first place.
They’ve made the characters even more insufferable throughout the seasons. Jack is still the “reasonable” guy and the “good” guy for some reason. John is still “communicating” with the island. Sayid and Sawyer are both bad guys trying to go on the straight and narrow. And Kate is still the “badass” girl with a “vulnerable” side. They’re still dragging out this now, love SQUARE, with Jack - Juliet, and Sawyer - Kate thing which is really annoying because who gives a shit at this point?! They have real life or death drama happening and we’re talking about who loves who?! Charlie, Desmond, Claire, and Hurley I really couldn’t care less about. Sun and Jin are just whatever too. I hate how Jin is seen as the comic relief, when he’s actually an abusive and controlling husband. Sun’s facial expressions and acting are painful to watch. She is NOT a good actor. But nothing compares to Juliet’s half smile fluttering eyelids look. Like get FUCKING GRIP. She literally looks as though she’s just waiting for someone to punch her. I can’t stand her smirk. And what the hell happened to Michael and Walt?! We know they were eventually found and that Michael turned against his fellow survivors in order to cut a deal with the others, but like since then, what the fuck happened to them? What are the others?! Why isn’t Mikhail dead?!?!?!
I’m actually glad they killed off Shannon, Boone, Eko, and Ana Lucia because they were really pointless characters in the end. But Libby?! I thought she’d be important because they showed that she was actually in the same mental hospital as Hurley and the island I guess “cured” her mental illness. I think the island "curing" people with its "magical healing powers" is BS. Like chemo therapy and learning how to walk again takes YEARS, same with being able to combat mental illness. Fuck "miracles." Not everyone can experience a miracle. I'm glad those people are okay now, but it's still extremely trivializing to the real struggle.
Okay, that’s enough ranting for now. I guess to make this blog somewhat intellectual I’ll talk about what I think the “main point” of the show is. I think that season 3 is making it clear to us that the island is either a metaphor for hell, or that they’re actually in purgatory waiting to go to hell or heaven, or that they’re actually in hell. This really comes to be obvious when we find John’s father on the island and he basically says “it’s too hot to be heaven.” And that he came to the island after he crashed his car and died. In addition, we learn that their flight was found at the bottom of the pacific ocean and all the bodies were there. So they could really be dead. Lastly, most of them did something bad in their life. Kate killed someone in cold blood, Sawyer, Ana Lucia, and Jin did that too. Sun had an affair, Michael abandoned his son, Claire accidentally killed her mother, Charlie was a drug addict, etc. But John, Jack, and Hurley, as far as we know, didn’t do anything bad. So I was thinking the lists the others make could be lists of people who are good. In addition, children who were conceived before ending up in hell survive, but ones conceived on the island never come to term and their mothers die too. I was thinking the others also always say that they’re the good guys, what if they take the children in order to protect them. Lastly, we’ve seen Jack’s dad on the island and the black horse from Kate’s past, two things that are dead in the real world.
Even though this theory is really good, there are some discrepancies. For example, the others are supposedly able to come on and off the island. There’s also that big magnet that attracts metal to the island. Maybe this is all a conspiracy theory. The flight being found with all the passengers is just there to show the world they’re all dead, to give up hope of finding them so no one ever finds the others’ precious island. It’s really all up in the air right now, but those are my predictions. We’ll see what they have in store for us after season 3 is over.
